MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mayor Levendal has offered his condolences to those who lost loved ones in the fires that raged through the Southern Cape.
He said Mossel Bay had a moral duty to assist neighbouring municipalities to fight the fires and to provide whatever help may be needed.
He commended the residents of Mossel Bay who, as with the Knysna fires of 2017, generously donated whatever was asked of them to sustain the firefighters and help the families that were rendered homeless as a result of the fires.
Closing of offices
It was approved that the municipal offices will close at 13:00 on the days before Christmas and New Year. The municipality will host their year-end function on Friday, 30 November, when the offices will also close at 13:00.
Waste management service level agreement
Council approved that a service level agreement be entered into with the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) for the revised Integrated Waste Management Plan for the Mossel Bay Municipality. However, the agreement will be subject thereto that the (GRDM) ensures that all B Municipalities in the jurisdiction participate in the project, failing which Mossel Bay will have the right to withdraw from the project and cancel the agreement. The final draft of the agreement will be workshopped and approved by council.
Disaster Management Plan
The updated municipal disaster management plan was approved and will forthwith be adopted into the Integrated Development Plan. This is a very comprehensive plan dealing with all possible disasters and emergencies and offers a detailed communications plan for all eventualities.
Upgrade of De Bakke/ Santos Resort
Council expressed its satisfaction with the improvements of R2 933 935.29 made to the De Bakke/Santos Resort.
This entailed, among others, the painting of the interior of the chalets. Several further upgrade projects, specifically relating to the furnishing, the ablutions, laundry and scullery will follow in due course.
Name for new housing development
The proposed new housing development between Louis Fourie Road and Bill Jeffery Avenue will be known as Mountain View. This decision, approved by council, was taken by the relevant ward committee and ward councillor. Several new street names were also approved.
ANC Councillor Jovan Bruinders reiterated his call that the naming of several neighbourhoods be changed. He called on councillors to make proposals in this regard.
