MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On 10 June, 81 learners who make use of the eViwe Community Centre in KwaNonqaba received school shoes as part of Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) Mossel Bay's School Shoes on Feet Programme.
This programme is a volunteer effort, which affords port employees an opportunity to give to those in need. Employees were encouraged to donate brand new shoes, which allow children to "walk with pride during Youth Month".
Mossel Bay port manager, Dr Dineo Mazibuko, said: "We are grateful for the support we receive from port employees whenever we run volunteer programmes aimed at spreading the spirit of ubuntu in our communities.
Our corporate social investment initiatives are aimed at alleviating poverty and improving quality of life, not only in our immediate communities, but in the district.
"The shoes will bring dignity to girls and boys who would otherwise have missed school or felt uncomfortable because of not having school uniform essentials."
The shoes were handed over to learners on 10 June and a message, encouraging KwaNonqaba youth to stay in school and prioritise their education, was shared.
Port of Mossel Bay employees are always delighted to lend a helping hand as and when required, TNPA noted in a statement.
"Without the community's support, the port would not be able to service customers and achieve all its strategic objectives. Such engagements strengthen the special relationship TNPA has with community schools and our youth."
TNPA praised the eViwe Community Centre management for "playing a critical role in educating and developing our future leaders".
