MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two of NSRI Mossel Bay’s pink rescue buoys have been stolen in the last two weeks.
The NSRI appeals to the persons who took them to please return these life saving devices.
"They are public rescue equipment that is for rescue only. Anyone, other than serving NSRI Pink Buoy volunteers who has one should be encouraged to return it to the pole that they took it from. The next person who needs a pink buoy for a rescue may be your loved one."
It is a criminal offence to steal lifesaving equipment.
According to the NSRI, "131 lives have been saved with the help of a pink buoy that we know of. All in water rescues have been successful and no harm has come to any rescuer. 96 of the 131 people rescued are people who were rescued from a rip current, which is the biggest danger that people face when going to the beach this holiday season. Please swim where lifeguards are on duty and look out for our pink buoys so that you know where they are in case of an emergency".
The NSRI is looking for pink buoy volunteers in the area to look after these Pink Buoys.
If you know of pink buoys on the beach that you visit and are interested in helping us look after them please send a WhatsApp to 079 802 6773 or email pinkrescuebuoys@searescue.org.za
