MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On Saturday, 28 October a large beach clean-up initiative by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue (S.M.A.R.T.) team and the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA) took place on beaches between Dias and Little Brak River.

It was the first time a collaborative clean-up by various organisations, businesses, schools and the municipality had taken place.
Civil rights organisation AfriForum sponsored refuse bags and gloves and assisted in the removal of the waste to skips sponsored by Interwaste.
Afrishore supplied refreshments to all the participants and the Mossel Bay Municipality fully supported and sponsored the effort.
Four schools participated in the clean-up operation and 20 learners from Indwe High School, Isalathiso Primary, Imekhaya Primary and Garden
Route Primary, with their teachers, performed their tasks with much passion and energy.
Learners from Isalathiso, Imekhaya and Garden Route primary schools and from Indwe High School, together with their teachers, participated in the clean-up.
On Sunday, youths from Hartenbos River Resort and Youth Camp also cleaned the area between Great Brak River mouth and Suiderkruis beach as part of the initiative.
About 30 plastic bags of plastic and other waste were collected, much less than expected.

Mossel Bay beaches are in a good state! It has already been decided that an even bigger clean-up by the 2017 partners will be held next year.
