MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Little Brak resident Hermann Vivier brought some old newspapers into the Mossel Bay Advertiser office, which he thought might be of interest.
They were discovered in the ceiling of his house when he had the ceiling replaced. Vivier says there were piles of newspapers all over the ceiling. Seemingly they had been used as insulation.
"I went through them all and brought the most interesting ones," he told Mossel Bay Advertiser.
One had a photograph of what was then called the Mossgas offshore platform.
As a comparison Vivier brought the 18 February 2022 edition of the Mossel Bay Advertiser with the front page article, "Sun sets on Orca", reporting that the PetroSA offshore platform, which was called the Orca, was being towed away.
Another newspaper had an announcement that Denise Lloyd was the new editor of the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
Lloyd is currently the Hartenbos Seefront complex manager and she holds several other titles in town, sitting on a number of boards. She has won awards for her voluntary benevolent work in Mossel Bay. She had a long career in journalism and still writes articles.
It was announced in the 16 July 1982 edition of the Advertiser that Lloyd was the new editor. She took over the reins from acting editor John Glen-Leary.
The earliest edition Vivier brought in was dated 30 April 1982.
