MOSSEL BAY NEWSFLASH - The NSRI had to respond to two call-outs to assist people on Friday, 21 July.
In the first instance the NSRI was called on to help a teenager that appeared to need assistance in the Great Brak River.
Alerted by concerned members of the community, the NSRI responded to the call for help at 16:47 on Friday, 21 July. Members of the public reported a female teenager in the water in the Great Brak River appearing to be needing assistance. We dispatched our rescue vehicle, towing our sea rescue craft, Vodacom Rescuer IV, to the Great Brak River and on arrival at the scene they found the teenager already safely out of the water," NSRI Mossel Bay station commander André Fraser said.
"A Western Cape Government Health EMS ambulance was summoned and the teenager was checked by paramedics and found to be not injured. We helped reunite her with her carers and arrangements were made to return her to her family. No further assistance was required."
Sea Vuna
Earlier on Friday morning at 11:35 the NSRI Witsand crew were activated to assist the crew of a Sea Vuna fishing vessel.
According to the NSRI Witsand station commander, Theo Erasmus, Sea Vuna Fisheries in Mossel Bay requested the NSRI Witsand in Port Beaufort to assist in the evacuation of an ill seaman from the fishing trawler, Vuna Imbongi, off
