MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On Tuesday, 26 July, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) will host its Garden Route Career Exhibition at the Dias Museum in Mossel Bay.
It takes place from 09:00 to 16:00.
This maritime career awareness event was not held for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The career exhibition is the largest annual career exhibition in the Garden Route, according to TNPA.
In a media release on Thursday, 21 July, TNPA noted that the exhibition attracts more than 1 000 learners and unemployed youth in and around the Garden Route.
Entry is free of charge.
The Dias Museum a strategic partner of TNPA and the location affords hundreds of visitors an opportunity to learn more about Mossel Bay’s rich maritime history, TNPA notes.
"TNPA: Port of Mossel Bay collaborates with both public and private institutions to showcase and promote key career and businesses opportunities in and around the Garden Route through a combination of 'edutainment' exhibitions, TNPA states in the media release.
Information on bursary opportunities available to young people is also provided.
Mossel Bay port manager, Dr Dineo Mazibuko, says: “The Garden Route Career Exhibition, which has been fully endorsed and supported by the Western Cape Department of Education, plays a critical role in inspiring learners to learn more about careers and bursary opportunities that exist not only within TNPA but other role players in the oceans economy.”
This initiative is one of TNPA’s strategic CSI and outreach platforms.
'Beneficial, meaningful, practical'
"To make sure that the programme is open, beneficial, meaningful, and practical to the learners, 500 learners will be transported from various schools in and around Mossel Bay, while other members of the community will be welcomed as walk-in participants," TNPA states.
Among others, academic institutions such as the South African Maritime School and Transport College, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), South Cape TVET college, SAIMI, the South African Navy, as well as development agencies such as the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) have fully embraced, will exhibit, and make a meaningful contribution towards success of the exhibition, TNPA notes.
The Garden Route Career Exhibition complements TNPA's recently launched Maritime Exposure Programme as well as the TNPA Maritime School Career Roadshows, aimed at reaching learners and youth beyond port cities.
"Port management thanks all exhibitors who will participate and contribute immensely to the future of our youth, as well as schools who have decided to act as a catalyst for positive change in our communities by contributing towards building future role models."
