MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - Police captain, Ashley Michaels, from Mossel Bay excelled herself at the national women’s police drill squad meeting held in Pretoria on Thursday, 27 January.
Provincial women police officers’ drill squads from throughout South Africa assembled for a competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of women being permitted to join the police service in the country.
Upon arriving at the venue, the squads were suddenly informed that it would not be a competition. Each squad would simply perform.
Captain Michaels is the leader of the Western Province drill squad. She is also the head of the investigations unit at KwaNonqaba Police Station in Mossel Bay.
Although the Western Province women were disappointed to be told their efforts would no longer count towards a competition, they were satisfied that they were the best of all the provinces, because they were the only one to achieve a standing ovation and the other provincial drill squad members told the Western Province women that they were the best of all.
