Entrance to the concerts will be free of charge. The first free event will take place this Saturday, 21 February 2015 at UniVen, Venda from 6.00 pm onwards.
Last year, an estimated 50 000 South Africans attended the free CAN DO! Refresh Tour concerts held across South Africa and this year it is bound to get even bigger.
In 2015, CAN DO!, Nampak Bevcan's consumer facing brand, will partner with southern African can recovery company, Collect-a-Can, and top musicians and DJs to host the can-only concerts to bring about social change and awareness.
"The concerts are created to develop the fast growing youth culture that says 'anything is possible if you have a CAN DO! attitude to life'. We want to educate party-goers by refreshing their thinking and creating positive social change by embodying that uplifting attitude," says Arthur Mafokate, South Africa's original Kwaito King and celebrated music producer.
"We had an amazing time in Venda last year and received a tremendous amount of support from the locals. Approximately 9 000 people attended the concert last year and that is why we chose to bring the party to Venda first and kick off the tour there," says Alexandra Bouwer, marketing manager for Nampak Bevcan's CAN DO! brand.
Anticipation is rising as Venda prepares to welcome heavy-weight South African artists such as Cassper Nyovest, Dr Malinga, Professor, L'vovo, Kelly Khumalo, Lulo Café, Shimza, Ishmael, Chomee, Arthur and Dj Khoi to CAN DO!'s world-class stage.
Hosts Luthando (Lootlove) and Akhumzi will ensure that party-goers are kept entertained and refreshed throughout the event.
"We will only allow cans at the events as they are safer to consume in public arenas; they are more environmentally friendly than other types of beverage packaging and overall much much cooler," says Bouwer.
Collect-a-Can will be onsite to collect all cans for recycling, during and after each event.
The weighing and collecting of cans at the event is aimed at creating awareness about the value of used cans, ultimately encouraging partygoers to collect cans and generate an income for themselves or others after the party.
"By recognising and investing in our country's talent, CAN DO! is making a difference to the music and entertainment industries " says Bouwer. " However, making a difference to our environment and creating a CAN DO! attitude among the youth of South Africa remains core. Through the concerts we want to encourage all partygoers to join the change to refresh South Africa's thinking, our future and refresh the world."
The Refresh Tour will unleash the party and host concerts at TUT in Gauteng on 21 March 2015; UNW in the North West on 28 March 2015; Wits in Gauteng on 18 April 2015 and UFOS in the Free State on 25 April 2015.
