MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Municipal waste management services started their clean-up operations this morning, 1 January at 04:00 following a busy New Year’s Eve.
Traffic and law enforcement officers, as well as members of Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services, have been particularly busy keeping an eye on members of the public as they celebrated the year end yesterday, 31 December.
In several instances, fireworks were confiscated from members of the public. Hawkers trading illegally in various areas of the greater Mossel Bay were also brought to book.
Traffic offences included drag racing, drunken driving, and wheel spinning. Perpetrators consuming alcohol in public were apprehended and alcohol was disposed of.
Several vehicle collisions took place, but no serious injuries or fatalities were reported.
Law enforcement officers patrolled beach areas in and around the greater Mossel Bay as well as entertainment establishments. No incidents were reported.
The only reports of overcrowding were received from Dias Beach, but following instruction from law enforcement officers, owners of the establishment adhered to prescribed regulations. Fire crews assisted at motor vehicle collisions and responded to a vegetation fire in Heiderand as well as a house fire in KwaNonqaba.
This morning, 1 January 2023 it has been reported that beaches were very busy. Patrols were out in full force to keep a watchful eye.
Emergency crews responded to a near drowning in Glentana and thus far no water-related incidents have been reported.
Motor vehicle collisions occurred today, 1 January, on Louis Fourie Road Voorbaai, Essenhout and Grunter Streets.
The latter caused temporary lane closure, however, no serious injuries were reported as a result of any of these incidents.
The Mossel Bay Municipality and its partners in community safety, including the South African Police Service, conducted a detailed operational plan during the New Year’s long weekend in order to ensure public safety.
