MOSSEL BAY NEWS - An angler was injured in a rubber duck accident at the Point in Mossel Bay on Sunday.
At about 16:00 the NSRI Station 15 crew and emergency services were activated after reports of a boat and crew in trouble. The NSRI rescue craft, Blaze Rescuer, was launched.
Two friends were spearfishing off the Point when the skipper, Chad Henning, of Wilderness, fell overboard while the rubber duck motor was still running.
His diving partner, Andy Foot, was in the water, fishing. Henning (50) was run over by the boat and the rotating motor propeller lacerated his left thigh.
He managed to swim to the rocks, where a member of the public, Ruaan Jacobs, called the NSRI and "provided first aid" to the injured Henning. Foot swam ashore uninjured. The boat ran on to the rocks.
The NSRI crew tried to recover the stricken rubber duck by approaching in the rescue craft from the sea, but with strong currents and shark activity in the water close to the scene, it was decided to carry the boat over the rocks.
Members of the public cheered the NSRI crew members when finally after about three hours, the rubber duck was safely on the shore.
ER24 transported the injured Chad Henning to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

Without the assistance of the NSRI station 15 crew, the recovery of the boat would not have been possible.
