MOSSEL BAY ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - In a rare music treat, the Mossel Bay Arts Society brings Quatuor Avena to town. Consisting of four passionate saxophonists, they are presently considered as one of Europe’s most vibrant and talented young saxophone quartets.
Hailing from different parts of the world (Italy, Japan, France and South Africa), these talented musicians met during their studies in Strasbourg at the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin.
Sharing a huge passion and enthusiasm for chamber music, they launched Quatuor Avena in 2016 - and have not looked back. Given their different social and music backgrounds, they set out working on a repertoire rich in variety - from Baroque transcriptions to contemporary music. Along the way they have collected an array of awards and nominations.
The programme for the evening is inspired by Ciudades (Guillermo Lago) - a suite of pieces each inspired by a different city around the world. Pieces from Stravinsky, Gershwin, Ligeti, Lago and Geiss will also form part of the evening’s repertoire.
The concert, which takes place on Thursday 4 April at the Dias Museum, starts at 19:30 with doors opening at 18:30. Tickets - R110 for members of the Arts Society, R130 for non-members and R30 for scholars - are available from the Espresso Spot (located in the Dias Museum) from Mondays to Saturdays between 09:00 and 15:00. Further information is available from Abé Meintjes (083 268 3718).
