ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Alberton’s Deity’s Muse received their first-ever South African Music Awards 28 (SAMA28) nomination after 20 years in the entertainment industry.
Deity’s Muse is nominated for the best rock album. The awards ceremony will be held on July 31.
The band consists of four members – Sashan Pillay (drums), Alvin Boucher (bass and backing vocalist), Kyle Engelsman (guitar and backing vocals) and Wayne Boucher (guitar and lead vocals).
The nomination follows their recent EP album release, titled Ennui, produced by Deity’s Muse and Dead Letter Circus guitarist Clint Vincent.
Ennui sees the South African progressive alt-rock group at the peak of their song writing abilities, mixing fierce, emotional riffs with dynamic, potent grooves that are motivated by the widespread turmoil of the present day.
According to Deity’s Muse vocalist and guitarist, Wayne Boucher, he became part of the band because of the passion he had for this type of music and the fact that he grew up listening to it.
“This is a rare genre to find in South Africa, however, knowing that we do it for ourselves keeps us going and strong. We were able to identify ourselves among other popular genres and we stuck to ourselves. That serves as reassurance to the community that everyone is unique in their own way,” said Wayne.
The band’s upcoming full-length album Ennui is the second in a growing EP trilogy concept and is their first since 2016’s Convergence.
Convergence facilitated Deity’s Muse’s appearances at Bloodstock 2018, Euroblast 2017, and their first UK tour, where they shared main slots with the legendary Sümer.
Bass and backing vocalist, Alvin Boucher, said the nomination took them by surprise because they did not expect it since their genre has limited fans across the country.
“Most surprising was that we heard that we were nominated by a friend. We did not believe him because it came as a shock to us. We are grateful for the nomination as it shows that our hard work is recognised and streamed by our audience,” Alvin said.
The Alberton Record would like to wish the band the best of luck with their nomination and their future endeavours.
