MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Swimming coach Bronwyn Macdonald organised a "Mossel Bay Mile" and hosted it on Saturday, 2 March.
About 15 people took part and they met at the Santos Beach parking area before the swim. One of them was a 79-year-old man, Louis de Wet.
Macdonald said she organised the mile for people who wished to do an open water swim - assisted or unassisted.
Assisted
With an assisted swim, one has someone swimming close to you. It was a free swim, with no entry fee.
Some of the participants raised funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (CHOC) before the swim, via a Back-a-Buddy link, Macdonald said.
"The Mossel Bay group raised R12 500 for CHOC," she noted.

Fundraising
This type of fundraising takes place for CHOC via the well-known Midmar Mile in KwaZulu-Natal and the Plett Midmoo Mile, for example.
The Plett Mile took place on 10 February. Some of the women wore swimming costumes with a black and white Friesland cow print on them - as has become custom with the mile swimmers who raise funds for CHOC.
