MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Sailing Club's Khanya Mafuta and Oliver Holden have been selected to represent South Africa on the 29er sailing boat in the World Sailing Youth Championships in Oman in December.
Khanya Mafuta has been sailing with the Skipper Foundation for the past four years and started sailing on the 29er with his new teammate, Oliver, at the beginning of this year.
Thanks to the Skipper Foundation they have been practising hard, trying to get on the water at least 12 hours a week.
Oliver Holden has grown up with sailing and is so glad for this opportunity to represent South Africa at this prestigious event. This will be the first time both athletes will be going abroad for a sailing championship.
The 50th World Sailing Youth Championships will be held in Mussanah Sport City, Oman. This event brings the world's best sailors in different classes together to compete.
In the last event 409 sailors from 66 countries participated and many of these sailors go on to compete in the Olympic Games.
The sailors need some help with equipment and funds to fly to Oman to compete.
They would appreciate any financial assistance to help them realise their dream. The Skipper Foundation has opened a backabuddy campaign, in which you can assist the young sailors.
Your donation would be appreciated greately. See www.backabuddy.co.za/south-african-29er-sailing-team.
