The small political party not only wants the court to stop the National rugby team from competing in the World Cup in England and Wales later this month, but also wants the players and officials from the Sports and Recreation Department and SA Rugby Union to hand in their passports. The party wants the court to order the Executive to establish a judicial commission of enquiry into the lack of transformation in South African rugby.
When it appeared that ANA leader Tshidiso Mokhoanatse was representing himself in court, Judge Moses Mavundla told him when a person who was no legal expert was entering the deep waters of the law, “it might be best to get a scuba diver”.
He stressed the need for transformation in the legal profession as well, but said the wheels of transformation grind “very slowly”.
“There is a need for us as a people collectively to move forward. We’re moving towards a different society. That’s what we’re looking towards achieving in future, but as we move towards that paradigm we need to hurry up, lest some people become impatient.
