SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Eden Bowls is very proud to announce that two local bowlers, Elma Davis and Christopher Patton, received their Protea colours and will represent Bowls South Africa in the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Davis, who has represented South Africa in international tournaments as a Protea on previous occasions, is a member of the George Bowling Club and a highly competitive and talented player.
Patton, a physically disabled player in the B6 category, is a member of the Knysna Bowling Club and practises his sport from a wheelchair.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Gold Coast 2018, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth and will be held on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, from 4 to 15 April.
The current approved sports include the 10 core sports - athletics, badminton, boxing, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, sevens rugby, squash, swimming and weightlifting. Integrated disabled competitions are also scheduled for the games in nine sports - swimming, athletics, cycling, table tennis, cycling, powerlifting and lawn bowls.
The full team of Bowls SA consist of:
Men: Gerry Baker, Pierre Breitenbach, Jason Evans, Rudi Jacobs and Morgan Muvhango.
Women: Elma Davis, Esmé Kruger, Nici Neal, Colleen Piketh and Anneke Snyman.
Pysically disabled: Tobias Botha (B8), Willem Viljoen (B8) and Christopher Patton (B6).
Visually impaired: Philippus Walker (B3) and Princess Schroeder (B3).
