Lately, he is focusing more on tours for bowlers and he visits South Africa twice a year. From 19 to 21 February, the bowling clubs of Great Brak River, Hartenbos and Mossel Bay were privileged to be the hosts for their touring party for a three day bowling tournament.
The British visitors entered five teams in the tournament and the other 11 teams in the tournament entered from Great Brak (3), Hartenbos (3), Mossel Bay (3) and Vista Bowling Club (2).
On Wednesday, 19 February, games were played at Great Brak Bowling Club; on Thursday, it was Hartenbos Bowling Club's turn and on Friday, the last games were played at Mossel Bay Bowling Club, where the prize-giving and closing ceremony also took place.
According to Stuart, this was the first time that a tournament was played in this format and they enjoyed it tremendously, visiting the various clubs.
In the end, a Jersey team, consisting of Cyril, Jean, Terry and Claudette, won the tournament with a score of 15 +52 and 58 ends won. Very close on their heels was the Mossel Bay team of Renier Nel, Adrian du Plooy, Yvonne Murphy and Marlene Coertze, with a score of 15 +50 and also 58 ends won. Another Jersey team ended in third place. They were Brian, Tony, Margaret and Mary-Jane.
After the prize-giving, the three days were concluded with lots of hugs, well wishes, enthusiastic singing and even a few tears. It really was a privilege for these three Southern Cape bowling clubs to host these people that arrived as foreign visitors and left as good friends.
"We are looking forward to see you again in a couple of years' time."
