MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - A National Strongman Competition, the Southern Cape Classic, took place at Hartenbos Seefront on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 September, drawing enthusiastic fans.
The truck pull was one of the highlights.
Despite the rain on Sunday, three events took place. Only one had to be cancelled.
Results:
- 1st place: Tristen O'Brien from Johannesburg. He was the 2012 SA's strongest man.
- 2nd place: Jaco Schoonwinkel from Swellendam, a farmer. It was his first major competition, so he did well.
- 3rd place: Terence Bosman, from Johannesburg.
- 4th: Kelin Mills, the current SA's strongest man. He suffered a bicep injury.
- 5th: Ettiene Smit. He is the nine-times SA's strongest man, from Johannesburg. He is in the masters division and aged 45.
Four Mossel Bay men competed in the contest.

Shane Jensen, the current Southern Cape's strongest man came 9th. He suffered bicep and forearm injuries - torn tendons. He is in the master's division and turns 46 years old in November. He competed in an international strongman contest in Iceland last month, 10 August, and placed sixth.
Following the weekend's contest, Jensen has been invited to go to Africa's Strongest Man on 22 November in Rustenberg.

The other three local contestants placed as follows: Deon Fourie came 14th in his first major competition, Tiaan Naude 15th (bicep injury) and Ivan Pieter came 16th.
