MOSSEL BAY NEWS - More than 400 athletes from 28 countries competed in the fourth UIPM Laser Run World Championships in Dublin, Ireland.
There were categories for ages from U11 to Masters 60.
Several Eden athletes took part in the championship.
UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann hailed the growth in popularity of laser run as the sport continues to surge, thanks to the Global Laser Run City Tour and the World Championships and numerous other development events across the world. "In 2019, Laser Run will be part of the programme of the first Urban Games."
Great Britain topped the overall standings with 20 medals in the individual races, including eight gold.
France and Hungary each won six titles, while Egypt and South Africa won four gold medals a piece.
South Africa also won two silver medals and one bronze medal.
Zanelle Vorster was the Eden athletes' team manager. Vorster and Marno Theunissen were selected by the athletes as team captains and Johan Windt was selected as the team SA technical official.
Just before the closing of the World Championships, Eden MPA's own disabled Kerri O'Loughlin had the privilege of participating in her own race.
