All the provinces will be there to select the national team."

High standard
Last year Ntunga represented the Western Cape at the national champs. Explaining the high standard of boxing in Mossel Bay, Qatu said: "Since 2017 Mossel Bay resident Bulelani Ngondeka been the best boxer in the Western Cape boxing league. He is a lightweight." Last year Krotso Molefe (15) was the best Western Cape boxer. He weighs 48kg. He is at Erika Primary School. This year he is a Western Cape gold medallist.
Qatu said he was impressed that the principal of Erika Primary was there to support the boxers. "In fact almost the whole school turned up," he said.
The regions represented were: Cape Town Metro, Cape Winelands, Overberg, West Coast and Eden. Eden did extremely well in the champs because it is a small region compared to Cape Town Metro.
Gold medals:
CT Metro - 12, Eden - 10, Winelands - 7, Overberg - 6, W Coast - none.
Eden is sending 10 boxers to the national championships - five boys and five girls. Three of these boxers - all boys - are from Mossel Bay: Krotso Molefe, Mbali Ngceya and Masixole Ntunga.
Ntunga received a voucher so he can buy a school uniform, as well as medals and a trophy.
Qatu said: "We thank our supporters. It was a long tournament. The principal of Erika deserves special thanks for his support."
He said: "A training venue is badly needed. Guys get sick because we are training outside.
"We have tried to use the Barcelona Hall in KwaNonqaba, but have had no success securing it. We have sent emails. We have been sponsored two boxing rings from the Lotto, which are currently in George. Now we have to hire a truck and transport them here whenever we have a tournament. Each time we pay R2 000 to transport them to Mossel Bay."
If you are able to supply a venue, email Qatu (masimphiweqatu@gmail.com).
The Eden team, consisting of Masixole Ntunga, Aviwe Ntoninzi, Krotso Molefe, Emihle Nelson, Usekho Tshamlana, Anesipho Tshatshu, Athenkosi Biyana, Aqhama Dyantyi and Norris Joshua (absent), will be attending the national championships.
