PLETTENBERG BAY GOLF NEWS - In spite of last week's rainy weather, the Plettenberg Bay community banded together to support volunteer crime fighters and emergency responders as they hosted their annual fundraising golf day.
The event, held on 6 October, was in aid of the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) rapid response unit and first responders team at the Plettenberg Bay Country Club.
PBCPA chairperson Sally Turner said that the organisation relies on public goodwill, fundraisers, donations and sponsorships for essential protective gear and equipment for its volunteers. The PBCPA volunteers also cover their own costs when responding and assisting in emergency situations.
Turner said fundraisers like the recent golf day are therefore important to assist them in continuing their work.
The PBCPA's Ina Olivier said she felt humbled by the support of the community.
"The goodness and grace of our community and businessmen and -women once again left us speechless. Without your support, sponsorship and participation, the fundraiser would not have been possible."
The funds will go towards equipment such as a mobile radio repeater, safety gear for volunteers as well as oxygen and other medical equipment for first responders.
