MOSSEL BAY NEWS - At the recent Envar Buys Bowls Tournament in Beaufort West, Eden U15 and U20 teams startled their opponents when the seven Eden teams entered for the tournament walked away with no less than six sets of medals between them.
This annual tournament, in which youth teams from Eden, Boland, Western Province and Central Karoo districts compete, is now in its fifth year.

The tournament honours a young bowler from George, Envar Buys, who lost his life tragically while attending a national tournament a number of years back.
The venue now rotates between the Western Cape districts, with Beaufort West taking its turn this year.
A total of 31 teams comprising 124 players participated, the largest entry ever and it also set another record for the largest district youth bowls tournament ever held in South Africa.
With constant growth every year, bowls is fast becoming the sport of choice for school children who may not necessarily participate in the other mainstream school sports.
The mix of both intellectual and physical challenge, which is unique to bowls, ensures it is a fast-growing sport in our district too, with the established bowling clubs in George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay now all offering their facilities and equipment to young bowlers.
The U15A Newby League – gold medal winners are (from left) Eshanul Lee Booysen, Joshuan Dumzela, Lee-Holin Juries, Marlin Saaiman and Hilton Prins (team manager).
Medals brought home from the 2017 Envar Buys Tournament by the Eden teams are as follows: U20 Open - gold and silver; U20 Novice - gold; U15 Novice - gold, silver and bronze.
The formidable Eden U20 team which won their section this year is the same team that took gold at the U20 National Tournament in Bloemfontein in April.
This was the last time they could play as a team and we wish them all well as they move into different age categories next year.
