NATIONAL NEWS - A Capetonian taxi driver (35) who has tested positive for the coronavirus was caught in Beaufort West ferrying seven passengers.
The driver is now facing attempted murder charges and is currently isolated at a quarantine site in Cape Town.
The driver, who had apparently tested positive for the virus after taking a test on 30 April at a roadblock in the Eastern Cape, was informed of his status two days ago by the testing authority.
Nevertheless, he proceeded with the trip on Thursday 7 May and was apprehended at a vehicle checkpoint on the R61 near Beaufort West. They were en route from Cape Town to the Eastern Cape.
The driver, seven passengers and three other persons in an accompanying vehicle were transported by police and traffic officials back to Cape Town, where they are being held in quarantine.
The police and traffic officials who escorted the driver and passengers will undergo the necessary monitoring in line with Covid-19 protocols, as a precaution.
