NATIONAL NEWS - A black mamba was found on a construction site near King Shaka International Airport yesterday.

According to The North Coast Courier, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) area manager Nkosinathi ‘Nathi’ Ndaba was called to remove the reptile from the site.

Officer Ndaba found the 2.5m snake under a pile of metal roof sheeting.

Black mambas generally grow to about 3m, though some reach up to 4m. They are highly venomous and found in forests, woodlands, and rocky terrain, preying on birds and mammals. 

A bite is often fatal without antivenom.

Once caught, the snake was taken to Durban.
