Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - It has been reported that the wild fig tree on Church Street has not succumbed to being poisoned and is indeed healing itself.
An unknown person drilled holes into the tree and has tried to poison it by pouring diesel into the holes.
Director of Community Services, Elize Nel said last week that following several interventions, including treating it with charcoal to detoxify the tree, the tree is responding well.
The latest update is that Ruwacon donated and delivered a load of sand in Church Street, where municipal teams are now making a large bed, shaping a wall to water the tree as part of its detoxification.
The tree will receive 1500 litres of water once a week.
“In a month’s time, we will start selective pruning to stimulate growth to the lower part of the tree,” Nel confirmed.

NUUSFLITS: WILDEVY VEG TERUG
