MOSSEL BAY NEWS - It is said Christmas is a time for giving.
Mossel Bay animal behaviour specialist and dog trainer Steven Montgomery is delighted to have raised a whopping R42 000 for two animal welfare NPOs.
Montgomery's business is called Whispering With Dogs and he is well known for the excellent results he achieves with his dog training classes.
Some of his clients drive from George to attend them.
Montgomery chose two beneficiaries for his fundraising project, which he began in November last year, the Hartenbos Feral Cat Organisation and Borcherds Paws. Borcherds Paws is active in the Borcherds informal settlement in George, feeding undernourished pets and organising vet care and sterilisations for them.
It also creates awareness about and provides education on pet care.
Montgomery also chose the Hartenbos Feral Cat Organisation because of the sterling work it does "to create awareness and improve the lives of the Hartenbos feral cats".
He gathered thousands of rands worth of prizes from private sponsors and businesses which he gave to people who made donations for the two animal charities.

The prizes included all sorts of vouchers.
Of the R42 000, R12 000 is going to the Hartenbos Feral Cat Organisation. Montgomery says: "They don't have to worry about buying cat food for the whole of 2024."
R30 000 is going to Borcherds Paws. Montgomery says: "It will be a huge financial relief for them. They can purchase medicine, deworming tablets, dip and pay for sterilisations."
Besides the funds, people have donated 1.5 tons of clothes and toys for Borcherds Paws to hand out to the families, whose pets they look after.
Also, almost a ton of pet food has been donated to Borcherds Paws.
"I am so chuffed," Montgomery says. "It was a great success." Montgomery held his prizegiving on Saturday, 2 December, for those who donated to these worthy causes.
He is extremely grateful to everyone who supported the project by donating cash and items and by sponsoring prizes.
"Next year we will have monthly prizes for donors," he says.
Supporters of the project gathered at the prizegiving on Saturday.
There were cupcakes to suit the occasion.
