MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Paper quilling is an art form which involves rolling thin strips of paper into coils and then shaping the coils and gluing them.
They can be used on their own to make jewellery or glued on to paper, cardboard or objects.
Artist
Mossel Bay artist Reni Seabourne, who has a teaching background, has explored many art forms and crafts and she taught herself quilling in order to teach others.
She notes that it is a satisfying hobby because it does not cost much, one can even do it while watching television and there is a variety of items you can make or decorate using quilling.
Rolled
Paper strips are rolled around a metal "post" which looks similar to a longitudinal eye of a needle, but the gap is open at the end, not closed like the eye of a needle.
The rolled paper can then be shaped into circles, hearts, squares and rectangles - all sorts of shapes.
You can even use a hair comb as a quilling tool, running the paper strip through the teeth of the comb, to create leaf-like shapes.
The most beautiful greeting cards can be made using quilling. (Article continues after video.)
