MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The man (22) accused of raping Caesar, a male dog belonging to an Ext 8 family, made his second appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court today, Friday 17 July.
Several Garden Route SPCA personnel and supporters of Caesar gathered outside the court this morning, holding posters calling for justice for the loveable hound and the end of abuse against animals.
The assault on Caesar had occurred on 16 June and a case of bestiality was opened at the Da Gamaskop Police. The case has since been transferred to the Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Following the report of the rape, Caesar was taken to a veterinarian for a full examination, and a rape kit was obtained from the police to collect forensic samples.

The SPCA had said in a video posted to its Facebook page on 19 June that Caesar had to be sedated for the exam to be conducted, as he was in a lot of pain.
The accused's first court appearance was on 18 June. He was then released from police custody on a warning, and the matter was postponed to today. During today's appearance, the matter was postponed again to 28 August pending outstanding statements and forensic evidence.
