KWANONQABA NEWS - The KwaNonqaba Police have opened a concealment of birth docket following the discovery of a dead newborn baby boy in a plastic bag this morning, 31 August.
According to a spokesperson for the KwaNonqaba Police Station, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, a cleaning crew found the body next to a waste skip in an open field beside the station.
“The cleaning crew picked up the black plastic bag, thinking it was part of the rubbish they were clearing. One of them noticed something different about the bag and opened it. Inside was the baby, wrapped in a red towel, with the placenta still attached,” said Kapp.
At this stage, it is unclear how long the baby had been in the plastic bag and whether he was alive at the time of abandonment.
The police investigations continue.
Anyone with any information should contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Geoffrey Moos, on 060 651 5948.
