MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Point, one of Mossel Bay’s most popular coastal destinations, is set to receive a R400 000 upgrade aimed at improving pedestrian accessibility, safety and the appearance of the area.
This is according to the Mossel Bay Municipality. Construction on the project started on Monday 31 August, and is expected to be completed by 23 September.
The municipality told Mossel Bay Advertiser that the work is limited to the island section within the parking area, directly opposite the Spur entrance.
According to the municipality, the project will primarily involve paving improvements, including the removal of existing surfaces, the installation of new paving and kerbing, and related finishing work.
The municipality said the upgrade forms part of its ongoing programme to maintain and improve the Point precinct, an important tourism and recreational destination for residents and visitors.
“Once completed, the upgraded area is not expected to affect the existing traffic circulation patterns or parking arrangements.
“Temporary inconvenience may, however, be experienced while construction is under way, including restrictions on pedestrian and vehicle movement, construction-related noise and dust, and possible temporary changes to parking arrangements,” the municipality said.
The project is funded through the municipality’s approved capital budget.
