Initiated by honorary Rotarian from Cape Town, Nata Dreijer, the march, replicating a similar event hosted in Germany annually to mark the change of seasons, has thrived, drawing around 100 participants this year.
"We even had a dog, escorting its owner who participated in the march, join us this year," chuckles Nata.
According to Nata, everything, even Mossel Bay's often unpredictable October weather, played along. The only hiccup is that the marching band that leads the procession, could not do so this year due to transport issues. But help was soon at hand when one of the passers-by offered to replace the band.
"Fanie Claasen proceeded to put a loudspeaker out his rear window and was driving with his car in front of the march," says a grateful Nata.
"As always I would like to, on behalf of Rotary, thank Henry Williamson from the Traffic Department for all his efforts to ensure that the march goes smoothly and of course, our gratitude towards Delfino's Restaurant for once again hosting us."
The Lantern March supported the 2014 Rotary theme - 'Light up Rotary'.
