MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Representatives of the Mossel Bay Municipality, in collaboration with stakeholders, will be at the Sonskynvallei Community Hall on Monday, 13 February, at 18:00 to present a road safety awareness programme.
Members of the community are urged to attend.
Tyremart and Dunlop will have exhibitions focused on vehicle safety (tyres, shock absorbers, wheel alignment, wheel balancing and the testing of a vehicle for roadworthy services.)
The Traffic Department will touch on the following safety topics:

- Why small children must not stand on seats
- Why it is important to give way to any emergency vehicles on the road
- Why ordinary people should not park in parking bays for the disabled
- How to get a disabled exemption permit and what is not a valid permit
The police and neighbourhood watches will follow this with an awareness presentation on the following concerns:
- Children and the elderly, unattended in vehicles
- Animals, unattended in vehicles
- Valuables visible in vehicles
- Safety (and concerns) regarding women travelling alone at night
For any information, contact Alma Kapp (044 606 5251 or akapp@mosselbay.gov.za).
The focus of the programme is to use all possible methods to address the governance – the legislative framework applicable to the Road Traffic Act as well as the Criminal Procedure Act when dealing with vehicles or acts of negligence.
The stakeholders involved will focus on exhibitions to address the roadworthiness of vehicles. The Traffic Department will focus on points that remain a challenge within basic safety.
