MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Police recently issued a warning to the public, especially those picking up and dropping off staff in the vicinity of JCC, to be to be extremely mindful of their safety.
It has been reported that during two incidents motorists waiting for staff were robbed while in their vehicles.
In one, the most recent incident, on Wednesday 29 May, two youths waiting for their father who was working at a premises in Hall Street, De Bakke close to the JCC area, were robbed of their cellphones.
The youths were busy on their cellphones, when two unknown suspects approached them from either side of the vehicle and threatened them with knives. One of the suspects held his knife to one of the victims' throats and took his Samsung S4 cellphone with pouch and powerbank.
The suspects also fled with the keys of the vehicle. The value of the items stolen is R14 000. The incident took place at 16:50.
In another incident, on 27 May, two municipal workers who attended a scene where street lights in the JCC area were reported faulty, were robbed of their cellphones.
The incident took place in TM Ndanda Street at 10:00. The municipal workers were approached by two unknown suspects, who threatened them with knives and took off with both their cellphones, a Samsung S7 and a Nokia 3. The value of the stolen items is R13 500.
"We are issuing a serious warning to members of the public to try and avoid these hotspots. Be extremely careful when parking your vehicle in zones such as D'Almeida, De Bakke, JCC and surrounding areas.
Make sure your doors are locked and that your windows are not down. If possible, rather park and wait in a safer area," says communications officer Capt Wollie Fourie of the Da Gamaskop police.
Both robbery cases are being investigated by Sgt Deothine Vaas of the Da Gamaskop police. Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call him (044 606 2200).
