MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The police is requesting the community to assist them in an investigation. In May, a case was reported during which a man, who drew money at the Standard Bank ATM in Marsh Street was approached by a suspect dressed in a light blue police shirt and brown corduroy pants. The incident took place on a Friday at 14:00.
The suspect told the complainant that he was an officer from the Mossel Bay Police Station, investigating a case of theft.
He convinced the complainant to follow him to the parking area behind the premises formerly known as Café Havana, where they were met by another male suspect. The suspects convinced the complainant to have his fingerprints taken at the Mossel Bay Police Station and to leave his money and newly bought clothing with them. As the complainant walked away from the suspects, after having left his belongings with them, he started doubting the situation. He turned around at the Mossel Bay post office and went back to where he last saw the suspects, only to find them gone.The suspects made off with R3 850 in cash and clothing to the value of R1 469.
The case is being investigated by Sgt Nobuntu Mtini (044 606 2846/50). Anyone with information is requested to contact Sgt Mtini.
A reward is being offered for information that will lead to arrests being made.
