MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - True heroism was shown in the name of charity on Friday, 19 July, when numerous bravehearts participated in the Winter Knights Polar Plunge hosted by Mossel Bay Round Table.
This was part of a national drive by the Round Table to create awareness of needs in communities and to collect donations for the needy.
Congregating at the Point in Mossel Bay, despite the low temperatures, the wind chill factor and intermittent rain, everyone was in high spirits.
The Round Tablers and some of their family members held the fort from about 18:00. The rain stifled their attempts to get a fire going, but the cold was good enough incentive to keep trying. Members of the Mossel Bay NSRI Station 15 arrived in their usual chivalrous style at about 19:00 in support of the project.

Town councillor Anton Dellemijn also took the plunge for the second year running. One of the "plungers" wore a shirt with the words, Tersia Marais, printed on the back. She is one of the Mossel Bay Home Ads News freelance journalists, who annually covers the Polar Plunge.
Marais recently suffered a stroke and is undergoing rehabilitation.
Among the bravehearts were a few primary school children, who with their parents took part in the event.

Donations for the needy were delivered during the evening and members of the community can continue dropping off donations at Mossel Bay Toyota until 19 August.
"What we are experiencing here tonight is what people who live on the street go through. This is real-time," said one of the project coordinators, Wessel van Brakel of Round Table. For more information, contact Wessel (044 873 4566 or wessel@delplan.co.za).
