MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Town Council has implored residents to voluntarily save at least 10% of the water they consume.
This follows statistics indicating that the level of the Wolwedans dam, which supplies Mossel Bay with potable water, is currently 24.47% lower than the level it was at the same time last year.
Water consumption has dropped by approximately 6.35% over the past year, even though the number of consumers are continuously increasing.
"Although there has been a significant drop in the consumption patterns over the past year, as the annual rainfall situation is expected to worsen, it is imperative that a water-saving culture is maintained at all times."
Council was asked to note that the average daily volume of water purified is 24 ml/day and increases to 32 ml/day during the peak periods in December/January.
It is therefore imperative that the 10% voluntary restriction and rigourous water saving awareness campaigns continue.
Council also noted that a 45% restriction is applied to all consumers in the Herbertsdale and Buisplaas area as these communities are reliant on ground water resources.
