MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Worthy Woman competition is in full swing and people are urged to nominate women who work to uplift their communities.
Ché Clarke is the first Mossel Bay woman to be nominated in the competition.
She works for the Growing Children section of the Growing Hope NPO, which is the social responsibility arm of the church, Every Nation Mossel Bay.
Educationist
Ché, a qualified educationist and facilitator, with a Theology Masters degree, instructs people, mainly preschool teachers, who work with children, by giving them certified training courses.
The Worthy Woman competition was started by Salome Werner, who is well known in Mossel Bay for her Mooiste Jy initiative in town, offering makeovers for women.
Benefit
Local charities in the Mossel Bay area will benefit from the Worthy Woman competition, which culminates in a high profile gala event in the town hall on 3 August, in celebration of Women's Month.
A television show and radio station have already been enlisted to cover the event.
Salome told Mossel Bay Advertiser that when she started the Worthy Woman competition, publicising it online through social media, she never dreamt she would receive 2 780 nominations from throughout South Africa.
Entries
That was the number of entries the competition had attracted at the time she spoke to the Advertiser this week.
She had only received seven entries from the Garden Route, so she urged locals to enter the competition.
Salome explained that she did a needs analysis before organising the competition and she found that charities in the Mossel Bay area did not have enough income to do their work.
Events
She is organising 16 different events in the Garden Route area from 3 to 10 August this year, to raise money for these charities. Besides the Worthy Woman contest, Salome is also organising a competition to give away a makeover and several other prizes.
The deadline for entering the Worthy Woman competition is the end of May and the closing date for the makeover competition, 1 July. Tickets, costing R350 before 1 June, or R450 thereafter, are available for the Women's Month function in the town hall, to take place on 3 August.
