MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The KwaNonqaba Police have confirmed that eight suspects (aged 15 to 18) have been arrested in connection with the murder of well-known spaza shop owner Furaq Oneekend Chuandry, fondly known as Frank.
Chuandry was attacked by armed suspects in his shop in Adriaans Avenue on 29 July. “The suspects demanded a cellphone, which Chuandry was busy repairing.
The police suspect that he resisted them and was then assaulted by the suspects, who were armed with pangas and knives,” said police spokesperson, Sgt Kappie Kapp. Chuandry was rushed to a local hospital, where he died of his wounds.
During a special operation following information received from the community, police arrested the eight suspects on Thursday evening, 30 July. They have already appeared in court and will bring a formal bail application on Wednesday, 4 August.
The investigating officer is Wo Geoffrey Moos. “We thank the community for its cooperation,” said Sgt Kapp.
