MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Local rock band Van Konings recently made a comeback with the launch of their first English album, Sirens.
Lead singer and songwriter Leon van Rensburg spoke to Mossel Bay Advertiser about the new album and their return to the music scene, hoping to connect not only with their local fans again, but to also grow a national fanbase.
The band consists of Leon, his brother, Morné, who is the guitarist, Jemin Koen on bass and Shaun Brown on drums. All of them are from Mossel Bay.
Leon said the band had released an Afrikaans album, and then the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Following the lockdown, the band had wanted to start making music again, however, one of them had a long battle with an illness.
"It is finally out, after some hurdles. All our songs are original. We make music not for a living, but because it is a passion for us," Leon said.
He said one of his personal favourites on the album is "Cadillac on Mars", which they are in the process of making a music video for. The album is available on all music streaming sites such as Spotify and YouTube Music.
Leon said the band was extremely excited when one of their songs, "Hold On", was recently played on Algoa FM. He said while they are not doing live shows at this point, they are excited to be making music and videos for their fans.
