MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Recognising the need for effective succession planning and in an effort to retain valuable employees, the Mossel Bay municipal manager, Advocate Thys Giliomee, has initiated a Middle Management Development Programme.
To strengthen and develop the leadership capacity of employees currently in middle management positions, the programme intends to develop and challenge the 30 identified leaders over a period of one year.
It is important for the municipality to invest in its employees.
A successful succession policy means that institutional memory is retained and developed, also that the existing winning culture is perpetuated and entrenched.
The programme involves formal training in a classroom situation. Participants will receive tuition in local government finance to give them an in-depth understanding of the various income streams and legislative framework that governs the manner in which municipalities deal with taxpayers' money.
The Middle Management Programme also deals with performance management, recruitment and selection, the legal framework that governs municipalities, disciplinary processes and procedures to follow with disciplinary hearings and strike management.
