MOSSEL BAY NEWS - There has been an outcry on social media after a woman in a dark blue Audi was seen stopping and dumping a Yorkie on the side of the road at the Dana Bay turn-off on the N2 over the weekend.
Garden Route SPCA spokes-person Wendy Jones said this week that witnesses said the woman then drove off and the terrified little dog ran after the car as fast as it could.
"It reached the bridge just before the N2 and gave up as she was gone. It then disappeared into the bushes. People did stop to try to find it but had no success."
A number of people expressed outraged on various Facebook pages and some went searching for the dog. Jones said: "The SPCA has combed the whole area thoroughly but unfortunately has not yet found the dog. Yorkies are a very small breed and fairly defenceless, making them easy prey so its chances of being found are running out."
The SPCA staff also returned to the site a few days later to do a thorough search but found nothing, she reported.
Anyone who might have information on the woman motorist or the Yorkie is asked to call the SPCA (044 693 0824). All calls are kept completely confidential.
Jones said: "If you have seen a stray Yorkie near the Dana Bay turn-off or N2 or if your neighbour has suddenly brought a new Yorkie home, please report it. It is against the law to keep a stray animal.
"Yorkies and Yorkie-cross dogs can come in a variety of colours and shades."
