MOSSEL BAY NEWS - In response to the recent public unrest and violence that have impacted the community through the displacement of people, damage to property, and the tragic loss of life, a united call has been issued for Mossel Bay residents to come together in a spirit of peace, healing and solidarity.
The faith-based fraternity of churches in Mossel Bay will host a peaceful March for Peace on Sunday 14 June, in collaboration with the Mossel Bay Municipality.
This initiative aims to provide a platform for residents from all walks of life to stand together and reaffirm their commitment to peace, unity and non-violence.
The participants will gather at Barcelona Circle in KwaNonqaba at 14:30, and the march is set to begin at 15:00. The route will cover about 3km and conclude in Dywili Street, where a collective prayer meeting will be held. The event is expected to end at 17:00.
All key community safety partners, including the police, municipal traffic services, law enforcement and local neighbourhood watch groups, will be present.
While participants are encouraged to take part on foot, provision has been made to accommodate vehicles under necessary circumstances, particularly for elderly participants and persons living with disabilities.
"Secure parking will be available at Barcelona Circle and additional parking at the KwaNonqaba Community Hall. Transport arrangements will also be in place to return participants to the starting point after the event," said the municipality.
A detailed route map will be shared on online platforms ahead of the march.
"Importantly, the organisers have emphasised that the march is a non-racial, non-denominational, non-cultural and non-political initiative. Participants are respectfully requested not to display any regalia associated with political parties, organisations or affiliations," it said.
Mayor Dirk Kotzé has welcomed this initiative, noting the importance of unity during challenging times.
"Our community has faced difficult moments in recent weeks. This march is an opportunity for us to come together in a spirit of peace, compassion and mutual respect. We encourage all residents to participate and stand united in building a safer, stronger Mossel Bay for all."
