MOSSEL BAY NEWS - It was the hard work of detective Constable Makhosonke Dyiba at the KwaNonqaba Police Station that led to the safe return of a stolen husky dog, the arrest of the "dognapper" and his subsequent sentencing.
This is according to the police station's management.
One day in June last year, the owner of the three-month-old female husky pup came home from work to find her missing.
The owner reported the theft of his dog to the KwaNonqaba Police Station and Dyiba was assigned as the investigating officer.
KwaNonqaba Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, said Dyiba interviewed several people around the owner's home and the owner himself and it eventually led him to the suspect.
Kapp said the suspect told Dyiba he had sold the husky to someone for just R150.
Two days after the dog was stolen, Dyiba found her in a good condition and returned her to her owner.

The dognapper, 20-year-old Xolisi Gouws, was sentenced on 10 March to a R10 000 fine or three months' imprisonment, suspended for three years, provided he does not commit any acts of theft during that period.
The station's management has commended Dyiba on a job well done, and said it was his hard work and dedication that not only led to the safe return of the dog, but to the arrest, conviction and sentencing of Gouws.
The owner of the dog was contacted by Mossel Bay Advertiser, however, he did not wish to comment.
