MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay woman had plants that she had bought at a nursery loaded on to the wrong bakkie and the driver of that bakkie drove off with them.
She and her husband discovered later that the plants were not on the back of their bakkie and they are trying to get the plants back.
They purchased them at the nursery at Builder's Home, opposite the Langeberg Mall in Heiderand.
Leaving
As the couple were leaving the nursery, Nita van den Bergh indicated that the plants should be loaded on to a bakkie parked outside, thinking the bakkie was theirs but she and her husband's bakkie was parked further away.
Later on they discovered the plants were not on the back of their vehicle. They returned to the nursery, but no one had handed in the plants.
Laughing at her mistake, Nita says: "The bakkie looked the same as ours."
Middle-aged man
CCTV footage from the nursery shows the plants being loaded on to a bakkie, but the vehicle registration number cannot be seen. The CCTV footage shows the driver of the bakkie to be a middle-aged man.
Nita put a post on a popular community Facebook page, requesting that the plants be returned.
The plants - two lollipop trees and seven large spekboom plants - were loaded on to the wrong bakkie at about 12:00 midday on Saturday, 29 June.
Stem
Lollipop trees have a thin stem and the foliage on top of the stem is shaped into a ball shape, thus the name "lollipop".
Homeowners often use two lollipop trees, also known as standard trees, on either side of gates or entrances to gardens or homes. A number of plants can be used to make lollipop trees. Ideally they should have dense foliage that can be pruned into a ball shape.
Nita and Kobus would appreciate it greatly if the two lollipop trees and seven spekboom plants could be returned to the nursery. They will fetch them there.
