MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Another 12 young people of Mossel Bay will soon embark on a life-changing, challenging and exciting programme when they become the next incumbents of the Mayoral Youth Advancement Project.
The first programme of its kind ends at the end of June. Yesterday, 2 July the new recruits met their new mentors and start their journey into adulthood.
"This is not your school; the cosy days of four terms and regular holidays are a thing of the past.
"While we are proud of each and every one of you for making it this far in your quest for a better life for yourselves, the municipality will expect discipline, hard work and dedication from each one of you," the director of corporate services, Edward Jantjies, who will ultimately be responsible for the team members, told them when they had a quick get together at the municipality last week.
"I can only ask of you to have faith in yourself.
"Use every opportunity for growth and self-advancement that may come your way. Make the most of the mentors who will be there to guide you every step of the way. Ask questions," the municipal manager, Advocate Thys Giliomee said. He said the programme offered the youth an excellent opportunity to become part of a well-run organisation, where they would get well-earned experience that would equip them for their future careers or further studies. "The Mayoral Youth Advancement Programme relies upon you for it to be a success," executive mayor, Alderman Harry Levendal stressed.
The next 12 young entrants in the Mayoral Youth Advancement Programme met the executive mayor, Alderman Harry Levendal (middle), municipal manager Adv Thys Giliomee (back, second from right), municipal director of corporate services, Edward Jantjies (front right) and senior municipal employees.
He said while every single person will have their own circumstances to contend with, the municipality is the great equaliser.
"Here you are all equal; you will be given similar opportunities to grow and benefit from the courses and workshops you will attend. Negative circumstances are part of a mindset. Transform that mindset to open it up to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
"The municipality will give you the opportunity and the tools to transform your mindset so that you may also transform your heart.
"Be present in the programme with all of your heart and mind - show the world who you really are and what you are capable of," the mayor challenged the young interns.
