MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Following traffic congestion on Louis Fourie Road since yesterday afternoon, 23 May, the Mossel Bay Municipality released a statement regarding the construction on the road near the Shell and Caltex filling stations.
The municipality said it is aware of situation on Louis Fourie at these filling stations.
"Temporary traffic signals have been placed in the area due to road construction. This is part of the Louis Fourie upgrade project by the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure," the statement read.
"The contractor will be on site today, 24 May, to attend to the issues experienced. Actions include improving the synchronisation with the other traffic signals on the route."
It said the contractor had already placed traffic officials at the intersection to regulate traffic during peak times and at other times as deemed necessary.
In addition, municipal traffic services will be deployed at key intersections, like the R328 at Hartenbos Heuwels, to manage traffic flow.
"It is expected that this temporary arrangement will remain in place for the next 6 months."
Motorists are advised to consider taking alternative routes like the N2 if and where possible, to add additional travel time to their journey, and to exercise patience whilst driving during especially peak traffic hours. The municipality apologised for any inconvenience caused.
