WESTERN CAPE NEWS - The Department of Basic Education and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) have made several resources available for learners to use, so that despite schools being closed, learners do not fall too far behind in their school work.
The Department of Basic Education has partnered with the SABC and several radio stations to provide educational programmes focused on learners in grades 10 to 12 as well as young children who are in Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres.
Subjects such as mathematics, physical science and accounting will be covered on these programmes.
The schedule for these programmes as well as the radio stations which have partnered with the Department of Basic Education, is available on www.education.gov.za.
If you have access to the internet the WCED has an online platform called the E-learning Portal (http://wcedeportal.co.za) which has thousands of online resources available for learners, parents and teachers.
The resources are organised by grade and subject and learners in grades 10 to 12 can register on the e-portal to receive resources specific to the subjects that they are registered for, without having to search for them.
There is also a landing page called the School Closure Pack, where parents and learners can find resources that WCED curriculum advisers have determined will be useful to learners while they study at home during the lockdown.
It includes Teaching and Assessment Plans (TAPs) for all grades so that parents and learners are able to see what content and skills would have been assessed each term so that they can stay on track with their studies.
Grade 12 learners should make use of the curriculum support offered on Openview HD channel 122. This television channel is available without any subscriptions and will broadcast until 30 September 2020.
