MOSSEL BAY NEWS - While none of the police stations in the greater Mossel Bay area are in the national top 30 for crimes registered, some did appear in the provincial top 30 list.
Da Gamaskop Police Station ranked 12th in the province for the number of arson cases and 20th for stock theft cases. KwaNonqaba ranked 21st in the province for its high number of stock theft cases, 30th in the province for burglary at a residential premises and 23rd for common assault.
This is according to The South African Police Service which has released its first quarter (April to June) crime statistics from all police stations across the country.
Da Gamaskop Police Station
Da Gamaskop Police Station is dealing with an overall increase in cases of most crimes. The types of crime cases that have decreased, compared to the first quarter last year, are robbery with aggravating circumstances, robbery at residential premises, robbery at non-residential premises, malicious damage to property, burglary at residential premises, burglary at nonresidential premises, theft of a motor vehicle, theft out of a vehicle, commercial crime, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, drug-related crime and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Murder, carjacking and arson cases remain unchanged from last year's first quarter results.
Mossel Bay Police Station
There was a decrease overall in cases at Mossel Bay Police Station, but small increases in these cases: sexual offences, common assault, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, rape and malicious damage to property. The rest of the types of crimes either decreased or remained unchanged. There were 52 fewer crimes detected as a result of police action.
Great Brak River Police Station
There was a slight increase only in the following crimes: driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, commercial crime, common assault, and stock theft. The rest of the crimes recorded decreased from last year's first quarter or remained the same.
KwaNonqaba Police Station
There was an increase in most crimes for the first quarter this year, except: murder, attempted murder, common robbery, malicious damage to property, burglary at a non-residential premises, shoplifting and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The number of cases of theft out of a vehicle remained the same as last year's first quarter.
