MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On Thursday, 5 October, the ZJ Hulpsentrum, a special needs/education facility outside Mossel Bay, will be holding its first cerebral palsy day.
World Cerebral Palsy day is on 6 October.
A spokesperson for the centre says: "Come and make a difference in a child's life."
The centre is at 48 Rooikat Street, Alwyndal.
"We will have about 30 children and 10 physiotherapists and occupational therapists present. Each child will be assisted individually, demonstrating to parents or guardians how to help people with cerebral palsy," the spokesperson said.
Most of these children live in rural areas and their parents do not have the facilities nor the funds to help them with their daily tasks.
"We are trying to put care boxes together to help with their daily needs and exercises. If you can donate anything towards the boxes or make a donation so that we can buy what is needed for the boxes, it will be highly appreciated," the spokesperson said.
The opening is at 09:00 on Thursday and the exercise demonstrations - including hydrotherapy - are from 10:00 to 15:00.
One of the ZJ Hulpsentrum learners, Francois Ferreira, will be doing the Meiringspoort 12.5km race on 14 October. All the funds collected via the link to sponsor Francois, will be given to a child chosen during the cerebral palsy day on 5 October.
To sponsor Francois, go to this link; https://pay.yoco.com/Franna-Meiringspoort.
"What is wonderful is that Francois himself has cerebral palsy, yet he is raising funds for others with cerebral palsy," the centre spokesperson noted.
